Where are most people staying?

I have been looking at the KIngsway and Burlington Hotels, but they both look like dumps!

I may be sleeping on the beach, if get there at all. I should not air my RL problems here, but I have have a water bill for over 1000 euros (about 800 pounds) for the last quarter. There was a burst water pipe on my side of the meter under the concrete drive.

So I will be nursing one pint all evening and I will not be buying anyone any drinks and that goes for Blib too.

To answer your question, several B & Bs are advertised for from 25 pounds.

I booked my room a couple of days ago at the Burlington for ?65 (extortionate IMO!), out of lack of choice. Everything else in near proximity to the meet point seemed to be taken. In fact when I called the Burlington I was told that the room I booked was the last single room left on that night.

However I did notice some rooms available a bit away from the centre (15 - 20 mins walk or more) which were also cheaper (I saw one for ?45). I was actually tempted to go for one of those and possibly use the difference in price to get a cab there at the end of the night, but decided on the burlington in the end.

I strongly recommend to anyone who wants to attend the meet but hasn't arranged their accommodation yet, that you do it now to avoid disappointment

Just remembered.. if you do decide to go for the Burlington (and this may apply to other hotels) it seems to be cheaper to book it online through a hotel comparison site. When I called the Burlington direct I was quoted ?70 for the same room that I paid ?65 for online.

Hi JB

Cavendish for me, still had a couple of single rooms at ?49/night inc breakfast, and a couple of doubles at ?71 inc breakfast. Via Active Hotels.

UPDATE - Tuesday night, 10:45 30/9/08 - still got 1 single, 1 double room left!

Still there Armand at 21:20 Thursday ! It says the booking can also be cancelled 1 day before for no loss, maybe the Burlington says the same - cancel and swap to save ?

Thought the link had the 17-19 Oct dates embedded but it reset to today ... but todays info for the Meet weekend is still 1 of each free.

PS it DOES seem to be cheaper to do it via a hotel booking agency / comparison site, as I think the cavendish is usually way over ?100 a night b&b !! from its own site.
