In my continuing quest to get a client I am totally happy with I have resorted to reading source code for Clio and other mud clients. Unfortunately the way that Havoc's java client is written I can not get everything I'd like to look at. Is ther a spec anywhere that fully documents how the FE codes work when you run in client mode?

I don't know if my C or Java skills are up to it these days but I'd really enjoy looking to see if I could tweak a few things I don't like.

I've had a look into making my own client.. I could quite easily make an app that looks and works like the one I demoed on here previously.. but I have no idea about the actual intricacies of how a client should communicate with a mud etc...

A Clio client that works with win 7 would be fantastic ( hint hint Tabitha) or if anyone else can make a similar client with sounds etc.

Richard has a document describing FE mode, he usually only gives it out to wizzes but it can't hurt to ask. Your both also welcome to email me and ask questions (or mudmail if you want a slower and badly formatted response).

And thanks Turrican for the suggestion - I contacted Richard and he has given me a copy of a redacted version of the document - redacted to remove any WIZ privileged info

Now it's up to me to see if I can actually do something with this......

No, clearly it's not meant to be openly available to all. You could be some highly untrustworthy person looking to cause trouble!

Have you got an idiots guide for getting mud to work under Ubuntu? I could use that, cheers.

@turrican
Does this site serve a socket policy file for flash?
I think it does since it's possible to connect via mudconnector but I'm playing around with fmud atm and can't access it on the default port 843. Help me.

Have you tried a cross platform MUD client such as http://www.mudlet.org/download/?

Check your package manager and see if it's available in there, or just use the manual installation links for Linux.

You'll have to ask Foddy. I'm curious what you're up to though, something evil?

I would love for my client to become a reality but I literally have no idea about the coding side and client->mud communication.. I can just make a pretty-looking graphical HUD with animations and sounds and everything!

What would you use to make this "pretty-looking graphical HUD"?

Heiach - I am now getting a reasonable understanding of how the FE codes work which are the essence of making a good client ( imnsho) . Personally I think Clio would be a good starting point for the comms side of things - what have you got for the GUI side ? if tabitha is still following this thread I'd be wiling to give it a go merging Hei's and Clio unless you'd want to do it? Tabitha has got all the pre refs so there is no point reinventing the wheel.

Radical thought....... How about integrating the Facebook api's so we had options to paste updates to fb.
