Hey all,

What do you think about putting together a new issue of Muddled Times? I'm up for some content as well as turning articles into web pages.

To give you a framework, here's the typical MT structure to date:

Editorial
News & Gossip
Articles
Game Information
Fiction
Quizzes
Interviews
Charts
Dragon Island Dates
Letters / Agony
You've Been Logged
Events

I can contribute material for:
Editorial
Quizzes
Game Information
Interviews

Charts seems like something only an arch could do. The most recent issue followed the format:
Top 100, Dead or Alive
Top 25, Dead!

Dragon Island Dates and Letters sounds like material many folks can submit with a light commitment. Any interest?

Seems like Cen would be ideally placed for gossip.

Hopefully that's enough to stimulate some ideas.

Who can pledge what material?

As a teaser I could make the work-in-progress issue available to read pre-print to those that submit material. Would that motivate?

Ok. Here's some teaser content:

----snip----
*
*Havoc the warlock says "Oh wow! You're at 185.6k!".
*Firedemon the mage says "i am determined, more determined than ever. i play like every set is my last.".
*Firedemon the mage says "be that as a mage or a mortal".
*
*Havoc the warlock says "What's different about playing a reset as though it's your last?".
*Firedemon the mage says "extreme amount of pressure.".
*Firedemon the mage says "hands are shaking like mad".
*Firedemon the mage says "excited yet you have to ignore it all".
*
----snip----

I was intending to post the interview on mudii.co.uk but maybe I need to hold it hostage!

Great idea Havoc! I'll help where I can. So far my talents seem to lie in bloopers (hmm) so maybe I can contribute to you've been logged (though this seems like something a wiz could better do).

I'd like to also nominate Cen for some kind of help/advice column (if Haw is too busy). I think she'd be good .

I'm reminded of the old "Miss Manners" column they used to run in the newspaper. People would write in with questions along the lines of "How do I walk in high heels" and she would reply "left, right, left, right".

Let me know where, how, I can help.

That's a great start. Dig up your bloopers!

What do you think about that, Cen?

How should people get their Miss Manner's letters to you? Mudmail? Email?

In the spirit of the various tours of the land that are already in the muddled times someone should write an outline guide to Redwoods

I nominate Ape0mancer who showed up a little while back

People can send logs and/or questions for an advice column to either Bluestone at mudmail or mosquitoinmudii@gmail.com.

Can you give an example of a miss manners letter so that people know what will fit?

Something along the lines of Hawumph's column. It could be Hawumph's column or Ask Cen or Ask Merlin (depends on who wants to do it I suppose).

Questions? Could be anything really:

Why do people carry around boats? Are they that worried about global warming?

My favorite item to swamp is ornament1 and I usually get 6 points for it. But last reset I got 11 points for it. Was that because my stamina was higher?

Why so many rusty keys and how do I tell them apart?

The ogre keeps telling me he loves me. What's up with that?!

Could I sign up on the list for instant notification when PKers enter the land? I am willing to pa....er, donate the stipulated amount.

I've seen the nightcap but can't find the pajamas. Any clues?

Is the well a wishing well?

Etc.....

Maybe somebody (not me) could write a new 2015 guide for new players to get started? Introduction and links to clients, overview of the game, high level map, explanation of what a keyboard is. That sort of thing?

Another idea: players could put forward well reasoned suggestions for game improvements, and then Hawumph could patiently reply explaining why they're terrible ideas.

For example, I think the game should introduce a new container that is based on Ryan Air carry on luggage. A closable waterproof case, with wheels and an extendable handle, which can carry enough kit for a weekend city break in Barcelona. It also creates a trip hazard for any other player in the same room.

I have a load more of these ideas if nobody else comes up with any. I may be the person behind the award winning success of Ogreball[TM], but I don't want to put anyone else off suggesting equally great game modifications for Hawumph's critique.

Who do we email them to?

Folly - I think what we need most at this point are folks willing to turn ideas for articles into articles. Are any one's you'd like to write?

I like this idea, although naturally it would also need the obligatory size test box that you can only just fit the case into by jumping up and down on it, and which then refuses to relinquish the case until the game resets.

Could it also serve as a flotation device?

I've not come up with any sensible ideas for an article yet. I'm pretty busy with work at the moment, but might be around Sunday evening if I have any ideas by then.
