Cool, got my first vote in for the new link (up to 27 now!).

I don't think the keyword matters - its just so that a link can be made which is unique to that mud, for the voting. For the search feature users would still type "mudii" to find it.

Twice a day? Been voting whenever I open web browser, I keep a tab open to remind me. Not entirely sure my memory will cope with remembering twice :| It's climbing very nicely, though.

How long do you reckon until we can get it in top 10?

Yeah, Miek said twice a day / 12 hours apart voting ( I think! ) - just tried to vote twice in 5 minutes and it just ignored the 2nd vote... no error message though!

Ohh Hi Zordie!!

The way it works is that when you vote, no more votes will be accepted from your computer until 12 hours have passed since the last one. Also, the site deliberately doesn't acknowledge your vote straight away or give you any indication of success/failure, to prevent people from figuring out how to work around the system. So when you vote, you will not seen an immediate increase in position.

In = number of votes
Out = number of times people have clicked on the mud

In my experience, apart from immediately after a reset (which is every 2 weeks), it is very hard to get into the top 10 without a lot of dedication from several people voting twice a day. Currently we are 28 with 57 votes, and position 10 has 224 votes. So we'd need around 4x as many people voting as we do now, to have a chance.

Of course, if you have more than one computer in the house or a smart phone.....

I'd be very careful with that. Their rules state:

Quote:
How often can I vote?
Your vote will count only once every 12 hours. For the most part, the script will stop someone from inflating their votes. If I catch you cheating such as using open proxies, I'll give you a warning, then suspend you, then ban you from the list. The integrity of this site is based on the fact that cheating will not get you to the top, and that the rankings are as fair as they can be.

From what I can tell, they use a combination of IP address and cookies to detect unique votes. So if you live with another person and have access to a separate computer & internet provider, then you can probably justifiably vote twice, but more than that is probably pushing your luck a bit

That's fair enough or people will be there spamming like crazy voting. Twice a day it is then.

Hey Vul, not seen you on for a while! You been well?

Then our course of action is clear, get caught boosting the ranking of all 28 muds above us! (Not to be taken seriously.)

Ah, they don't have a rule against that.. <snicker>

Actually I once spoke to a player of one of the top 3 muds at the time, and the admins at the time were engaging in all kinds of dodgy activities, such as in-game rewards for votes, popups that don't go away until you vote, etc (all very clearly against the rules). I dunno how they got away with it.
