Would this be material for the main/home page? Getting the home page right is probably the hardest thing to do. Nightshiver pointed out what we don't have in his post

I think we should put a screenshot up there. Because if they're going to be scared by text then they're going to be scared off anyway.

Pure text IS going to be offputting. So the problem we need to address is how to dress up the text so that it does look interesting. I don't know if that's a-la-Wireplay / Diablo-esque etc.

What does look best to a newbie, because we need to know that if we're to come up with an effective client.

Now if that tour was interactive, and available from the Newbie home page, that may help.

The home page would ideally appeal to Newbies - what do they come to the game to do?
Kill, get points / levels / treasure / progress or finish game, socialise, but generally have fun.

Perhaps emphasize these parts of the game and lead to other web pages with hints on how to achieve them ( a bit of LExleys info etc. may work ), with logs or tour style info?

Wouldn't that be the same as playing the tour in-game?

An idea could be to ditch the front-end for immediate newbies completly, i.e they type in a persona name and it just drops them in the t-room with "This appears to be your first...". It has obvious problems though...what if the persona name is in use? What happends when they qq? They have to deal with the menu at some point, will it be more confusing when they do? But hey, just a thought!

One thing about tour0 is that it would be good if it mentioned that other tours exist at its conclusion.

Karya and I have been working on the home page of the new website, and have made some progress. If you're interested in giving feedback on what we've done so far, please contact Karya.

Thank you to everyone who are already helping, but we are looking for more people to help with the development of the website in order to complete the site rapidly, in particular:

  • People to develop "modules" for the site - preferably with knowledge of PHP.
  • A graphic artist to help with some artwork for the client, probably cartoon-style.
