As a youth playing MUD you two were the first ever PKs I ever met. Really chill dudes. We had some chats now and again. I was just wondering what you guys do now? Where life took you?

Off the top of my head: Same goes for DarkKnight, Sonic, Warlord, Foz, Jesstar. What do you do? You were the first peeps I ever interacted with in an online community!

Do you study? Work? Have kids?

I'm 32. I study Creative Writing and live with my 6 year old husky. I don't work enough (some odd bits of Transcription.) and haven't played MUD in ages!

Cheers, please reply here or PM.

Hello, Reverence here.

Is it too late to reply? Only been five years.

Mud2 played a significant and memorable role in the earier part of my life. I can't remember the exact year it was when I first played, but it was in the early days of Wireplay.

It was probably around 1997, I would have been about 12 or 13. I went by a different and rather simple name back then - Properson.
As in ProPerson - I was young and naive. I only used Wireplay to play C&C Red Alert or Duke Nukem.

There were times when no games were available. That is how I ended up trying Mud, and in the end it was all that I played.

I find my behaviour from those days quite shameful to be honest. I was so young, and people at that age can behave quite stupidly, some especially so.

People can also change, and while some might not change much, some change a lot.

My online gaming did not end with Mud. I got into mmorpgs after that. Though i'm finished with them now, a case of been there done that.

Little detail some might find amusing. I have a mention on wikipedia for being the top player and prize winner on the FPS game Kwari before it was shut down. Look up "Kwari Sinister" on google if interested.

As i've evolved as a person my desire for player killing diminished. I just don't find it fun any more. I think it's wrong to be mean to someone if you can choose not to be.

How is my life in the present? Better, much better. I'm glad about where my life has taken me and more importantly, who I have become so far.

It's been a long time since we've heard from you, Rev (or as I liked to call you, 'Mr. Erence' - my running joke was that we weren't on first name terms).

It's good to know you've changed a lot since those days. I think we all have, to some extent. We look back on our behavior from fifteen or twenty (or more) years ago, and find things we're embarrassed by.

As for me, I keep coming back to MUD2 even though I have played an MMORPG in the past several years as well on and off. Things have quieted down around here, but I still turn up here a lot.

I've never been particularly fond of PK'ing, but I can respect those who are sporting about it and only attack those who are of their level, are just a level lower or just a level higher. As long as it's in within certain limits and scruples, it can avoid being bullying and instead be a challenge. Though at the same time, many players don't care for PK'ing and will try to avoid it when possible.

Anyway, it's good to hear from you again.

Funny how after all these years there is still that pull that can keep one coming back, even if only occasionally.

Hi Rev. I look back fondly on our sets together, sharing kit etc. Mud played such a great part of my life but sadly since having kids I dont have time to play any games.

There were far worse things to do as a teenager and young man as running around on a text based adventure and shouting about lag....

For sure, on all points. I look back fondly on my time in mud. That was nearly 25 years ago. How the world has changed since then.

Wow. It is good to hear from you all. Thanks for the replies. We are around the same age, Rev. I found MUD in the same way and was also a red alert fan.

I see my friends kids gaming and they remind me of how we all were when it came to PKing. It is some Lord of the Flies action for sure!

I feel the internet was far different and more of a wilderness back then, our stories and experiences are unique; some people just would not understand.

I don't enjoy PvP as much in games, partly because I'm older and my reactions aren't as fast haha. Nowadays I like and play:
Sea of Thieves, Rust, SMITE and Rimworld.

Best wishes.

I'm still around. Still checking in, though MUDii has been quiet these days.

Hi guys, Darknight here - so yeah, it's been a hot minute. I'll do a quick update on life I suppose - I studied music (jazz) at uni, did that for 3 years, graduated (3,1 degree, I was a lazy bum ) after that I went down the teaching route, did a PGCE in Music for highschool teaching. I did a bit of supply work, and subject specialist teaching for around 5 years, and got tired of the lifestyle (this was around 2014 at that point).

After that I wanted a change, so I went back to school to study IT, did a couple of certs, CompTIA A+ and network+, landed a job as an IT tech in a school and worked my way up from there. Now I'm a deputy head of IT in a college in London, and never looked back

For living arrangements, I moved out to Watford around 2016 and rented with friends. Dad passed 3 years ago, so I ended up coming back home to help mum out.

I think that pretty much covers my life. Good to see you guys though, I missed our debauchery in the tearoom

I don't think I have a working mud account at the moment, or at least not one I can remember the password for, but at least I've remembered my password to the forum.

Good to hear from you Darknight - I remember Mud in 1999 if you are the same Darknight. Long live MA!

Indeed I am - although my old account doesn't exist anymore. I did manage to claim DK on a new account though, and I even managed to convince Zalagar to give me back my moonlit title

Good to see you guys again. Long live MA!

I remember you DK, we used to PvP sometimes together, and sometimes trading swords. I seem to remember I was using the litter word to trick people into losing health attracting scorn from all.

Good to see you.

Guybrush here,

I played since the wireplay days. I actually remember some of you arriving years later, but I am sure there are plenty who where there long before me.

I am a psychologist now, and have two children (one of them very recent).

It is interesting that I actually went into psychology as a subject due to the actions of one of the (eventual) wizards here.

I will not mention their name, but they befriended me, told me they had cancer at one point. And even slayed my first mage, whilst we played together (they lobby-lood) logged out whilst we both slept and killed me for the points.

It left me quite broken and very mistrusting of people. As I had only just lost my hearing as a teenager (and lost all my friends) prior to this situation occurring.

I carried on playing for a few years, and the person responsible did apologise, but the game never quite felt the same for me again.

Although I forgave the person involved, I never quite trusted anyone again after that, and decided to leave (for the most part). It is fascinating how a few lines of text of immaterial pixels can affect you so much, in fact the person who did the deed told me it was 'nothing personal'.

And I'm sure it was nothing personal to them, but it is strange how deeply that betrayal cuts so deeply, even today.

But I still have very many fond memories, especially of Mr Flibble, and Meek (who was deaf like me).

Meek disappeared one day, I still wonder what happened to him.

To those who know me, and those who don't. I wish you all all the best.

:0)
